We have a new petition (HERE) calling on Cardiff Council to reverse its decision to lease Hailey park land for a sewage pumping station. Dwr Cymru Welsh Water has statutory rights to undertake underground work. They do not have statutory rights over-ground, including the sewage pumping station compound planned on Hailey Park. A landowner does not have to give permission (e.g. a lease) to Dwr Cymru Welsh Water to build on their land. On 28 September 2022, Cardiff Council cabinet members (including Cllr Burke-Davies) voted to allow land on Hailey Park to be leased for a sewage pumping station. The details of that lease are, we understand, still to be agreed. As the land owner, Cardiff council could stop the sewage pumping station from being built by refusing permission for their land to be used. Therefore we call on Cardiff Council to stop plans to lease Hailey Park land for a sewage pumping station, and stop any development of our park.
